STB Pioneers Joint Waste Management Programme with Hotels

KUCHING – Sarawak Tourism Board launched its pioneer Waste Management Programme with local hotels on October 9 as part of the Board’s initiative in pursuing its Responsible Tourism initiatives.

The programme, launched by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak, YB Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, is a long term joint collaboration project with WormingUp Sdn Bhd, a local NGO, aimed to raise awareness on proper food waste management and reduce its disposal at landfill sites.

The programme received participation from six local hotel partners mainly Hilton Hotel, Riverside Majestic, Merdeka Palace, Grand Dormani Rajah Court Hotel, Kuching Park and UCSI Hotel.

This ongoing campaign is expected to be expanded to cover the whole of Sarawak region within the next three years aimed to include restaurants, shopping malls and schools.
